As the site has grown we’ve learned better ways to do things. The time is at hand to swap our old way of doing subscriptions (on 43 Things and 43 Places) to the new way (on 43 People). Soon we’ll be redirecting http://www.43things.com/zeitgeist/subscriptions to
http://www.43people.com/subscriptions
What this ought to mean for the site(s) is better stability and fewer errors (oops pages). It will also mean that all subscription reading will happen on 43 People. It will take us a bit of time to work out the kinks, and oh, on the internet we all love change, but for some people this change probably will take some getting use to. The upside of a faster and more reliable site is likely worth the hassle.
In the new year we have a wicked plan (it’s called 6/6/6 internally) to make the site wicked fast.

I was doing this myself when I’d get the hassles at 43Things or 43Places when trying to check my subbies. The only thing I’m gonna miss is not being able to see how many people are subscribed to me. Any chance of adding that tally somewhere else for those of us it matters for?
Any chance of putting it back the other way? It much more confusing this way. I think a lot of people are confused too.
Okay, I click on my subscriptions page today and I am totally baffled. It has merged ALL 3 43 sites. I am not interested in what my subscriptions have to say on all of the sites, just the 43T site (no offense) and now I can’t see how many people are subscribed to me (something I am fascinated with) or even all the people I am subscribed to.
I also greatly miss the parent link and the ability to cheer directly from the page. Are we going to get any of these features back?????
I object! I went to see my subscriptions this morning (one of my favorite waking up activities), and I was thwarted. So I called Mr. Spils in a panic. He explained what was going on. I have to say, I don’t like having to be a part of 43people to be able to have subscriptions. I actually am not a fan of 43people at all, and would prefer to stay off that site all together. However, I think a huge part of my interest for 43things and 43places is taken away when I don’t get to have subscriptions. I like being able to follow people with my same goals, or friends, or people I have become friends with through the site. I feel as though I’ve lost a part of what easily kept me in touch with networking. I have never been very saavy in being able to write my point of view, or getting my argument across succinctly, but hopefully you understand what I’m trying to say. In short, can we go back to the old way? Or something closer to it?
things i like: seeing all of the post from my subs. the new look. seeing where my subs are from.
thnigs i miss: the parent button, cheering from the sub page, the more logical way that the threads were listed before.
fast is great, but not if it means we have to click 3 times to get to what we want to from the sub page.
6/6/6!!!! keep it wicked
thanks guys!
Hi guys,
Something did need to be done. Thanks for working on it. Something I already liked about the 43People subscriptions: being able to read all the gathered entries/comments from someone (except as someone has already noted, it’s a bit slow in displaying the new ones) & go pretty far back in their history on the sites.
My main concern is that on 43Things I was subscribed to nearly twice as many people as show up in my 43People subscriptions. I assume the others aren’t on 43People–? But I would like to stay subscribed to them. Is there a way to make that happen?
Thanks for all your brilliant work.
43eaks – thanks for commenting on this! We’re working through a lot of these issues today. A few are bug fixes (seeing how many people are subscribed to you – Erik has a fix in for this). We can’t go back exactly as it was as that was bringing down the sites. So, you should be seeing far fewer “Oops” pages today.
I’ll see what we can do about a lot of these other concerns you bring up. Alyssa’s got a good point — stay tuned.
I like fewer “Oops” pages. That being said, I also like the layout.
When I click on subscriptions from my 43things page, I get sent to: http://www.43things.com/zeitgeist/subscriptions which Oopses.
I would also like to cheer directly on comments too. This was a great feature, and made cheering quick and easy! Now it’s a little slower and not quite as easy, but still fun.
One other thing is that I would rather see the name of the goal, and not the name of the comment first. Either that, or make the actual goal more prominent.
I’ll probably think of some more things, but should I leave them on the blog or here?
Great improvements, except (ditto, ditto) that the cheering from the subscriptions page is now three times slower (and annoying) than before. Any way to be able to have a “Cheer this goal/entry/comment” directly on the subscriptions page, and also to have the links *pointing to 43T, and not to 43P*?
Other than that, brilliantissimo, and looking forward to seeing the new 2006 43T/P/P!
When I choose to see recent entries, comments etc for just one subscribee the list of “feeds” on the left of the screen sometimes have some of the sites replicated rather than having all four sites listed… For example, when i go to the subscribee page for malcomheaven or ericeric it has a choice of “43Things, 43Things, 43People and all consuming” but for some subscribees it shows 43T, 43Pl, 43Pe and allconsuming.
Apart from that I love the new subscriptions page =)
I have already emailed you 4 times within months and you never replied to me. I have even written it on “43things should do this” but you NEVER EVER FIXED the BLOG ON BLOGGER/BLOGSPOT bug, blogging from 43blah does simply not work. I give up, good bye!
