We had a couple quick victories (we think) the last 2 days. We think we sorted a problem in subscriptions that was taking down the site about 2-3 times per hour. Nasty. We also tweaked some database configurations that seems to have sped up the site a noticeable amount. Yea for 43 Things!
Today we turned people’s feeds and subscriptions all back on, finished our work on images (which should all be loading now), and made a bit of headway on the 43Places problems tool. Hopefully we’ll add a new webserver this week as well. So much progress on Lickety Split.
Please go ahead and let us know about any problems you are seeing on the site. The more specific you can be the better. And of course, we love all the compliments and kind words. It is not as much fun to work on the backend of the site, but it makes it more gratifying when we hear how happy it makes you!

yay! Congrats Robots, and thanks for tackling the problems and getting some results quickly! One thing that I’ve noticed is that it takes a little while to load many of my tabs in Firefox 2.0. Sometimes a few minutes. It’s bearable, but kind of hindering my cheering and commenting!
Just thought I’d let you know.

43T was flying in IE7 Final Release this morning…congratulations, and thanks for the quick work on your end!

Nice work!
Are the RSS feeds for subscriptions still disabled? (http://www.43people.com/rss/subscriptions/all?person=…)

I really like how fast it’s running now. Thank you! I was SURE I had a buggy profile over the weekend, and glad it’s not my fault.
I noticed that the feed page, however, is only 3 long. Granted at my profile feed o 50, it was a bit much… but are the old ones gone for good, or are you limiting feeds to a certain number of posts? That wouldn’t be a bad idea. Sometimes I’d want someone to read my old stuff only in the context of newer stuff attached to that goal…

The latest stats at Alexa show the site is still running quite slow. For Things at least.
Josh Petersen // November 1, 2006 at 1:53 pm |
Try using the site and see what you think. I’m not sure I’d ever advise using Alexa data as a guide for much — but they certainly aren’t doing any sort of daily updates on site performance.

43T running more sluggishly now.
Nick // November 1, 2006 at 5:54 pm |
Still running sluggish for me. Many requests take several seconds.

Wow! Everything’s running really well and using 43t is fun again! Only small thing is that I, personally, still can’t make replies to daydreamingmom. She says she gets them in her e-mail but they don’t actually show up on the site…

Hi Amy — can you email us at robots [at] robotcoop [dot] com with your username so I can investigate? Thanks.

WHERE?!?!?!?!? is the previously archived activity?
nic // November 3, 2006 at 9:02 am |
not related to this but I want to delete my 43things account.
In theory it is easy:
edit your account > close this account > few minutes later the account is deleted
In practice: nothing happens. I have attempted to close my account twice and it is still live and my information is still live.
Cheeers,
nic

It works much better. Thanks, Robots. Lickety Split did the trick. I have only had one time in the past few days when 43T timed out.

The e-mails doesn`t seem to be working now. That is, when people write comments to my entries I get e-mails about it very late or not at all.
But, that is a very minor problem compared to all the stuff you`ve fixed, the rest of the site is working brilliantly now! Thanks! We`re all very happy and relieved and toasting in virtual Breakfast Martinis!

Seems the site is experiencing SERIOUS problems right now. I can’t get 43pe, 43t, 43pl, allconsuming, or listsofbests to load.
Eric Hodel // November 6, 2006 at 11:49 am |
I’ve unstuck the queue as it had a bunch of undeliverable messages in it. We’re delivering email at a good clip now.

I discovered 43 things a few days ago and it is amazingly good. Thanks! I’m sure it takes a lot of work to create and maintain such a wonderful site. Good work!
Even this robotcoop.com site is beautifully and smoothly done. You guys rock!
Yes, I have a lot of reasons to smile. I hope my little cheer for you gives you a reason2smile, too.

Why do comments/email notifications still come thru on another 43er I have blocked?
Daniel // November 9, 2006 at 10:49 am |
reason2smile — glad you like 43 Things! I’m smiling as I type.
BeeQueen — can you please email us at robots at robotcoop dot com so we can talk about blocking. Thanks!

Getting an Oops! when trying to post a question to the New York City page.
vex // November 15, 2006 at 4:05 am |
My 43T RSS feeds are constatly showing up as updated, even though they aren’t – I have about 80 items from 43T in Bloglines every day, and most of them are from last month (normally I’d have about 20 items)… I really don’t think everyone’s been updating their old entries!
wineandravens // November 15, 2006 at 10:49 pm |
I’ve validated my email no less than 4 times and I still get the “you need to validate first” every time I try to do something like change the notify me option. Bug or no, it’s ver’ annoying.
vex // November 16, 2006 at 10:17 pm |
RSS still not working right. Every day, I get a lot of updated items – everything in today’s batch was updated Fri, Nov 17 2006 6:12 AM. The last updated one was: # Posted on: Fri, Nov 17 2006 12:55 AM # Updated: Fri, Nov 17 2006 6:09 AM, the next one just has a “posted” date-time, no “updated”. Pleeeeeaaaase fix this? Pretty please? With cherry on top?
Paragraphs? // November 18, 2006 at 11:23 am |
First, thank you for all the work you’ve done and are doing.
For some reason, in just the last few days, I can no longer separate the paragraphs in each of my 43thing entries. Have played with linebreak HTML etc. but still everything runs together. For a long-winded invidual like me, this can be problematic.
Not a major thing, just an annoyance! Keep up the good work!!!!
bob // November 19, 2006 at 2:42 pm |
RSS updates and WTH is up with the recent entires cut off after only one week back???
