Thanks for all the feedback on the new profile page! In response to the missing links to other 43 websites in the footer and missing tags we’re happy to announce 2 new widgets:
Your Tags & 43 Universe Widgets:
- Your Tags (displays the tags you’ve given to goals on 43T)
- 43 Universe (displays links to your activity on 43 Places, 43 People, All Consuming, Lists of Bests)
To adopt these widgets click the “customize” link in the top, right corner of the right widgets column on your profile page. Select the widget and save.
Tweaks:
- “I love 43 Things” is no longer the default language in the About Me widget
- remove your birthday - click edit on the About Me widget - zero out the day and month fields and save changes
- better pagination — allows you to easily jump to the end or middle of your completed goals, entries and other paginated stuff (we’ll push this out by day’s end)
- goals you’ve given up are now located under the “I’ve done x things” tab — click the “… & I’ve given up on x things” link up top
- added back the “read all 5 entries” link next to entries under recent entries
I’m probably missing some other tweaks we’ve pushed out the last 24 hours.
Disappearing Cheers:
Many people’s cheers given/received have gone down a notch in the last day. This was related to a bug fix that we’ve had sitting ready to get pushed out — this fix coincidentally went out with the new profile page.
Okay, so here’s where I lay it down for you, and there’s no sugar coating that will make this cheer-drop go down any smoother. The higher cheers counts many of us had (me too) were artificially inflated for a few months. Now that the cheers count bug is fixed everyone is seeing their true, for reals, honest to goodness cheers count. So, on the one hand you probably feel deflated (damn the Cheer Goblin!). On the other hand you may be experiencing the uphoria of absolution (”These cheers are the real deal and I’m an honest cheer giver and getter!”). I choose to see the cheers glass as half full. Join me?
Tips (for fun):
- add the Tags and 43 Universe widgets … because they’re cool
- reorder your widgets by dragging them up and down to a desired location
- reorder your goals by dragging them up and down
- click on the “x cheers” link under any goal and see the fancy recent cheer pop-up
- click on a picture and watch it get big!
Okay, that’s a mouthful. Help me spread the word about the fixes, widgets and enhancements. More to report soon …

Thanks, Daniel, it all looks SUPER!!!

Just wanted to say, I really like the new layout. One problem, to see the “widgets” properly, I have to side scroll. Any chance on making the size of the boxes adjustable?

jaspurlin — what browser are you using — IE 6? Unless you’re using a computer with a really small screen that shouldn’t be happening. If you’ve got more details send them to robotcoop [at] gmail [dot] com and I’ll investigate further. Thanks!

sorry if i’m being a blog whore, i was trying to sign up in the “should do this” site, but i can’t seem to, dunno why. anyways, i kind of want the 43 universe widget to be more expansive. like, have it as an option to have our map up, maybe a list of our choice displayed (like one we’d like to see all the time to keep reminding us), maybe 5 things we’re currently consuming, or maybe 5 most recently visited places… something like that. those are just ideas. i love the widgets -maybe it’s cuz it makes me lazier and keeps all my important stuff in plain view, hahahahaa! just an idea i figured i’d throw out there.
love you guys!!!

Admit it Daniel. The cheer bug was that it was actually still reporting cheers of people who had deleted their accounts over the past three years. So now their presence is truly gone, as though they never existed in the first place. *sob*
Thanks for all the work you Robots have done on tweaking things the past few days based on our feedback. I’m hoping that the enhancement that removes the cheer this link if we’ve already cheered it will be coming soon.

Daniel, the new layout is fantastic… great work!
My only query is in regard to the colour scheme. Not sure if it’s just me (and the late night I had), but I’m finding it more difficult to read that shade of blue… it’s a little too soft for my poor eyes. Don’t s’pose there’s any chance it could be boosted up in contrast a bit? Cheers

Yum yum, I like the new site. Easy on the eye. But could you possibly re-add the “edit entry” link to the profile page? It was really useful. No biggie, though, it’ll just save us one click!

Toddschoonover — yes, the cheers change was an adjustment based up on closed accounts. When people go bye bye we close out all their content and this pulls their cheers, entries, comments, etc. off the site. So, we hadn’t recalculated. Basically, cheers you give and receive are forever unless you leave the site or someone who cheered you leaves the site.
Loquaciouslass — have your eyes adjusted to the color? Most people seem to like the new layout, but I’m always interested in what people think about the new font colors. I can’t react to every comment (or I’d be switching it daily) but I can monitor everyone’s temperature on font color. Thanks for the feedback.
Absnansm - you can still edit an entry from the profile page. Click the tooltip arrow at the end of the entry title — then select “edit”. It actually allows you to edit all inline. Sweet!

Maybe I missed it but I haven’t seen anyone else comment on this so I will. I like the new “anonymous” faces! They look so happy - as a 43T user should be.
April 26, 2008 at 12:28 pm
I just noticed that the entries on 43T no longer have the date and time marked, only how long ago. Is that something that will be coming back? Among other reasons I use those dates and times to keep track of how far back I’ve cheered someone’s entries.

I LOVE the new layout! Can I ask if you’re going to change the homepage (the one for members who are already signed in) to match? I’m being cheeky but I’d also love to see the subscriptions page get a facelift to match! Thanks again guys.

Therese - we’ll be working on a new homepage layout and a new goal page layout in the coming months. They’ll be in step with the profile page design-wise, but there will also be new enhancements specific to these pages.

I know this is not the right place to put this but i could not find a contact us page. I joined up here sometime last year and went to sign in and it said i was non existent, so i signed up again using a different name, called EMO4. Is that OK?

Kim — creating a new account if fine. However it looks like you’re repeatedly being flagged by users for commercial/spam usage of the site. That’s not acceptable. More reading on that in the 43 Things Community Guidelines.

Sorry Daniel, I missed your reply! Still can’t say I’m finding the softer colours as easy as the previous colour scheme, and I’ve found I now have to keep the screen at full brightness. But, I must be getting used to it, as I’m certainly not having as difficult a time as I was initially. That said, I actually do love the way it looks.

What is this all about? Why in heaven’s name would anyone want to do anything other than edit and present an acceptable version of their life on a public site?

We need to be able to cheer more
:)
I love it all, thanks bunches
